Tamara Annis Artistry

Tamara Annis is an Ottawa born commercial artist, painter and illustrator. Working with pencils, brushes, needles and thread, she draws, paints, designs, styles, brands and grows anything and everything that ignites her muse. One in a long line of accomplished visual artists in the Ottawa valley, her mother was an award-winning folk artist whose textile art hangs in the Museum of American Folk Art, and her paternal grandfather was a respected commercial artist who studied under members of the Group of Seven. Having won her first major art competition at the age of four, it was clear to all where her path would lead, but like any true creative, she’s got some interesting plot twists that add a splash of colour to her narrative. Though classically educated in art, Tamara also has a degree in fashion design from the Richard Robinson Academie Des Haute Couturier, and also holds a BA from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with a major in Sociology and a minor in Religious Studies and Aboriginal Law. Inspired by the spirit of her parents, grandparents and her wildly creative siblings, she also cites influence from such cultural and style icons as Audrey Hepburn, Cyndi Lauper, David Bowie and Hubert de Givenchy as well as her brand and marketing mentor, Roots founder Don Green. Always focused on telling the story behind the image, she is driven by the ideals of peace, love and kindness, paying it forward as a patron of the arts and committed to supporting children, animals and their respective charities with her art. When she’s not painting the world in her own particular palette, Tamara spends her time transforming emotional scars into art through the fantastical character-driven series of prints ‘Phaeries, Tails and The Synchronicity of Dysfunktion’, co-producing the internet show and podcast ‘It’s Live! From Somewhere … and Wine’, planning fabulous food-wine-and-music themed parties and heading up committees for charitable events that are close to her heart. Blessed to have married her high-school sweetheart, she lives in Metcalfe, Ontario, with husband Mike, their six-year-old son Oscar, two dogs and six cats.

More recently, Tamara was named Vice President of Burning Bliss Project Phoenix.  This organization seeks to stamp out domestic violence through awareness, by painting hope into homes and by helping in crisis.  As a survivor herself, Tamara puts much of her spare time and energy into supporting this cause.
